Runners at the 2011 Freeze Your Gizzard race in The Dalles on Saturday, December 31.
Last week's rain and Friday night's wind was a bad sign for Saturday’s running of the 7th annual Freeze Your Gizzard Blizzard Run. However, by start time on Saturday at 10 am, the sky was clear and the temps. were rising. There was no wind to be found as seventy eight runner’s and walkers took to the Riverfront trail for their New Years Eve challenge.
In the 3k (1.86 miles) Luis Marteniz took the top honors with a personal best time of 11:49, four seconds off of the course record. Sixth grader Josh Nesbit took the second place honors , while Scott Bryant took the white ribbon. On the female side, fourth grader, from Colonel Wright elementary took the top honors with a time of 19:23, second place Angela Tapia 19:24, Karen Roberts earned third place
in the 3k in a time of 22:05.

In the 5k (3.1 miles) the male division was taken by three TDW XC runner’s led by standout runner Alex Dillard , who broke the one year old 5k record, broken by Alex of 17:17, by cruising to an outstanding time of 16:16. Senior Varsity harrier, Greg Glesener turned in an impressive off season time of 17:58 while Junior Grant Pearson took the third place ribbon with a time of 21;59. On the Female side, 8th grade Emily Morin took the blue ribbon with a time of 23:22, while Anne Evans, not far behind, took second in 23:29 and former TDW Runner Jill Pearson, on break from Lee University, took the third place ribbon with a time of 25:12.
In the 10K (6.2 Miles) The race was won by Astoria native Chad Madsen with a time of 43:07, while gorge runner Sid Spaulding took second in 46:02, and third place was taken by Brad Anderson in a time of 47:23. Former The Dalles Indian XC runner, Leanne Neal broke the tape in a first place time of 44:22, followed by Bobbie Bustemante in 2nd place female-46:30, while Nancy Glesener dashed across the
finish line in a time of 56:59.
